- Group games: Bell or whistle for
teacher, 10 potatoes per group, 4 balloons per group
- Poster board or large paper for making group signs and
- Colored construction paper for making group flag.
- Project A: Approximately 100 straws and
a roll of masking tape per group.
- Day B1: Light colored yarn (larger
amount) and blue yard (smaller amount) for students to make tassels.
- Day B2 and onward: Approximately 150
flat Popsicle sticks per group for building bridges. Students may use the glue of
their choice and may want to provide their own. (Elmer's white glue is very
- Day B3: One strong rubber band per
student (The thick kind like the post office uses) and scratch paper
- Day B4: 3 potatoes (or heavier objects) per
student and 3 cotton balls (or lighter objects) per student; also one spoon per student
(can be plastic)
- Project B: Finish the group bridges--if
not done. If you use the cooking projects, each group will need two or three
potatoes; a small carrot, an onion, one stalk of celery, and 1 1 /2 teaspoons of salt to
make soup. (Or have students each bring a potato, wrapped in foil, to bake in an
outdoor campfire.) The optional bridge contest can also be held on this day.
- C2: masking tape, drop cloth, large old
T-shirt that is light colored, permanent marker, five Q-tips and one straw for each
student, one small bowl of water with a different color of food coloring added for each
group, a large bowl of water with bleach to clean stains out of T-shirt.
- C3: Drop cloth, one bowl of ice cream per
group with one spoon, two trash bags per group and one blindfold per group.
- Finale Project Possibility: Groups
invite pastors, school board members, etc. to come to a Tabernacle or Sanctuary Museum.
Students have researched and prepared one area of the Sanctuary, with artifacts, to
talk about. Students stand like wax museum figures until approached by visitors, and
then they recite the short, memorized blurbs of information they have prepared and show
the similes of artifacts they have made. The Day of Atonement is acted out by groups
as part of the unit test.
Optional bridge contest: Use
uniform weights (like cans of food) to test bridge strength. Take pictures of
